Plot

May 1980

'Minwoo' is a taxi driver in 'Gwangju'. after his parents passed out, he has taken care of his little brother, 'Jinwoo'. 'Minwoo' falls in love with 'Sinhye' who is a nurse and also member of cathedral which he is in too. He always wants normal life even though he isn't rich. he is satisfied with a little happiness like that.

But one day. there is something horrible happened. soldiers armed with sword and gun keeps down innocent citizen, and even worse they kill some of citizen. all citizen in Gwangju are in suppression. to gain back their freedom, they protest. retired soldier 'Heungsoo' made rebel army, and fight against korean army.

About may 18. this movie is based on real accident. in 18 may 1980, there was so many demonstration about dictatorship. at that time president is 'Jeon duhwan'. two month after death of president 'Park junghee', 'Jeon duhwan' went 'Blue house'(where president live and work in korea), and occupied. after that, he made himself as a president. when 'Park junghee' died, people thought dictatorship was over. so another dictator came out people protest. there was a lot of demonstration. in 'Gwangju', there was a similar demonstration too. but president ordered to keep down to them. and government reported there were so many spy in 'Gwangju', so they had to lock down and suppress. but all of them were not spy but innocent people who wanted to get freedom. This explaining is based on UNESCO heritage of world records about may 18.
